About Homer
Homer, Alaska, is a picturesque town of 5,600 colorful residents whose lives focus on community and aesthetics. You'll find artists, entrepreneurs, and adventure seekers gathered to chat about local and world events wherever there's a place to sit. Coffee shop is our middle name.
Our boat harbor and downtown areas are chock-full of shops, art galleries, and restaurants. The land meets the sea in most directions, and there's never a shortage of spectacular vistas of mountains, glaciers, ocean, harbor, forest, or quirky architecture. And if you're looking for an enticing slice of Homer and its history, you won't want to miss the Pratt Museum and Islands and Ocean Visitor's Center or take a walk through Homer's Old Town.
Located on Kachemak Bay, on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, Homer prides itself in its many nicknames including "the end of the road", "cosmic hamlet by the sea," and "the halibut fishing capital of the world". Approximately 220 miles by road and 35 minutes by air from Anchorage, Homer is easy enough to get to.
The people who settle in Homer come from all walks of life and locations. Most are drawn here for the same reason: a sense of place. If you love the arts, nature, and community, it's a hard place to resist. As Susan Haynes describes in Coastal Living, "The town greets you like a giant pop-up card: forbidding mountains, alpine glaciers, dense evergreen forests, a fast-moving sea, the 4½-mile-long sand spit, and a thriving community."

It's no wonder this artsy scenic nirvana has enticed these celebrities to call Homer home at one time or another: Deadliest Catch captains Andy and John Hillstrand, singer/songwriter Jewel, worship musician Lincoln Brewster, Motel 6's spokesperson Tom Bodett, the Eagle Lady Jean Keene, House of Representatives Andre Marrou, American musician Zac Brown, political writer Shannyn Moore, fashion model Ambrose Olsen, Olympic wrestler Tela O'Donnell, Alaska: The Last Frontier's Kilcher Family, actor Ernest Borgnine, and others.
We welcome you to our enchanting landscape.
